Mini Review: Cafe Wander

One of my favourite discoveries of the year. Table service (fancy), friendly staff, decent coffee, far enough away from the office that it’s unlikely I’ll bump into anyone from work. The lunch offerings are good - baked potatoes, soup, sandwiches and paninis. They have a daily quiche but the time I tried it I discovered it was of the individual variety, which I don’t enjoy (more pastry, less filling, sad Jen). Great breakfast rolls in the morning and all day on a Saturday.
They also have daily specials that can vary pretty dramatically. Haggis and black pudding bon bons were good (although flaming hot, watch out for that). My favourite was the meatball sub (actually a crusty baguette). On Fridays they do French toast and bacon all day. The bacon’s always really charry, which I love. The only thing I can’t go for is the pile of salad next to everything. I’d rather it was some sort of chopped salad, even just a coleslaw. Or just nothing. French toast doesn’t need salad.
Great tray bakes to go with your coffee too, and reasonably priced (especially if you’re also sick of paying £3 for a slice of cake). I love a malteser cake and they have milk and white (bleugh) chocolate caramel slice.
